Founded
in 1913, the National Safety Council (NSC) has long been
championing the role that safety plays in our daily lives. In the
workplace, on the highways, in the home and everywhere in between,
the NSC's commitment to safety awareness is highlighted during the
month of June, officially recognized as National Safety Month.
Of course, while the NSC strives to represent safety and
accident prevention both in the home and office, Chatsworth
Products, Inc. (CPI) is especially committed to year-round safety
at all three of our major plant operations across the United
States, as well as our offices across the world.
In
this regard, CPI's commitment to safety is an expert mix of written
policies, incident investigation and constant safety auditing to
ensure the well being of our employees is priority number one. To
achieve this goal, CPI's Environmental, Health and Safety Manager,
Craig Tobin, focuses on these key areas:
- Involvement - through CPI safety committee
membership, safety buddies (Georgetown, TX location), safety idea
submissions, first-aid first responders
- Incentive and Recognition - safety SMART
goals, monthly recognition at owners meetings, safety BINGO, a
variety of safety campaigns, including "Put the Freeze on
Accidents" and "Safety Derby"
- Training - satisfying federal requirements
while keeping safety skills fresh. Includes safety huddles,
respirator/forklift/electrical/bloodborne pathogen/lock-out
equipment training, and APT-grams (summary findings and
preventative measures of incidents).
Naturally, CPI's safety program is only as strong as the
effort put forth by our employee owners, which is why we're
especially proud of one of our more recent safety initiatives,
the 144ft2/360º standard. In this
instance, every CPI employee owner, whether on the manufacturing
floor or behind a desk, is tasked with maintaining a safe work
environment in a 144ft2 radius by a full 360º spectrum -
wherever they move to throughout the day.
This comprehensive plan ensures that employee owners are not
only mindful of the safety precautions in our immediate vicinity,
but looking out for each other on a round-the-clock basis.
As we continue to celebrate June as National Safety Month, all
of us here at CPI are proud to carry on the hard work and best
practices every single day! Jeff Cihocki,
eContent Specialist and Craig Tobin, Environmental, Health and
Safety Manager.
